The Superpit was Australia’s largest open cut gold mine until 2016 when it was surpassed by the Newmont Boddington gold mine also in Western Australia. Located off the Goldfields Highway on the south-east edge of Kalgoorlie, the pit is oblong in plan view and approx. 3.5 km long, 1.5 km wide and over 600 metres deep. The Superpit is owned by Kalgoorlie Consolidated Gold Mines, a company owned 50:50 by Saracen Mineral Holdings Limited and Northern Star Resources Limited . The mine produced 628,000 troy ounces (19.5 t) of gold in 2018, and employs around 1,100 employees and contractors directly on site.

Ausdrill was awarded the Drilling services contract in 1989 and is responsible for supplying all Production / Grade Control based drilling services on site. In the height of the mining cycle 18 production and 3 RC rigs were achieving approximately 240,000 meters per month. Presently, Ausdrill currently employs 63 residential employees based in Kalgoorlie to maintain the contract with 9 Production and 2 Grade Control machines under operation.

Ausdrill provides a custom manufactured machine for Production and Ancillary Services on site (The Rock Commander 330 / and the 350 Longreach) which is designed around an excavator track based frame to enable reach and flexibility whilst providing a highly efficient way to access drill and aide in the mining sequence in the pit famous for large stopes and underground networks.
